When it comes to Halloween, we have never been the biggest fans, but watching our children’s anticipation and excitement over the holiday has definitely changed that! While I still only ever dress up as a cat and have been told by my kids that our house is “boring,” given my refusal to purchase blow-up pumpkins and smoke machines for our yard, the one thing that I do very well, if not with an almost Pinterest level of perfection, is a pre trick-or-treating spread of Halloween food, treats, games and decorations. Now, that being said, all of it is Pinterest light and guaranteed to deliver! In order to assure the survival of all parents involved, we make sure to set up a chili bar as well and even batch out some Halloween-inspired cocktails. Whoever thinks candy is the real treat is wrong! So, instead of thinking that hosting a pre trick-or-treat get together sounds spooky, know this is not a TRICK, and with our guidance below everyone will think this was the sweetest Halloween of all!

HOSTING TIPS:
Set up some fun games for kids like bobbing for apples, donut-on-a-string challenge, pin the skeleton, etc. (Target has lots of really cute, fun ones that we have linked in our essentials.)
Decorate with fun Halloween paper plates and napkins, a Halloween balloon garland (purchased from Target and linked in essentials- it was super easy), black candle sticks and candles of differing heights, skulls, etc.
Play a fun Halloween playlist.
In addition to your witches' brew, set up beverage tubs filled with pumpkin beers, waters and juice boxes wrapped in white medical tape (to look like mummies).
Does the idea of making food feel overwhelming? Order pepperoni pizza and use olives to make your pepperonis look like spiders. Just look up Halloween pizza on Pinterest and all questions will be answered.
Post trick-o- treating, have an inviting fire going and fun Halloween movie playing while kids sort their candy (and consume a frightening amount of sugar).
